Two policemen die of Covid-19 in city

KARACHI: A police constable who had tested positive for Covid-19 died in the city on Tuesday.
He was the second victim after an assistant sub-inspector, who fell victim to the virus on Sunday.
Police said that Constable Mohammed Anis, 55, died while being taken to the Indus Hospital f rom his residence in Landhi on Tuesday.SSP Sarfraz Nawaz Shaikh said that the constable was posted as the guard of an AntiVehicle Lif ting Cell (AV LC) DSP in Malir.
His test was conducted on April 25 and he was diagnosed as positive on April 26. As per medical advice, he had adopted self-isolation at his Landhi home, he said.
The SSP said that his health deteriorated today and he died on the way to the Indus Hospital. He was taken to a cardiac hospital in Landhi, where doctors declared him dead.
The officer said that they got to know that the constable had a minor heart problem which might have aggravated owing to the complications arising out of Covid-19.
Earlier on May 3, ASI Mohammed Anwar, who was the shift operator at the office of the SSP-City, died of Covid-19.
He was infected with the virus on April 28.Police sources said that so far 99 policemen had been infected with the virus across Sindh.
They said majority of the infected policemen belonged to Karachi. Two of the 99 policemen were infected with the virus in Tando Allahyar and Sukkur, respectively.
So far, four policemen have been discharged from hospitals af ter treatment while rest of them either got admitted to isolation wards of different hospitals or self-isolated at their homes.
The infected policemen include seven inspectors and one DSP.
Police have also arranged tests of their family members and colleagues.
As a result, 10 family members of one infected policeman and eight family members of another had tested positive for the virus, the sources said, adding that the results of several tests were still awaited.
