AS Covid`s third wave rages on, it seems as if Pakistanis have made up their minds about not willing to follow the SOPs.
Wherever one goes, people are seen in large numbers without wearing masks or observing social distancing. It is no wonder then that Punjab, the province with the highest population density, is hit the hardest in the third wave.
Hospitals are running out of oxygen cylinders and ventilators. Yet, nobody is ready to take the threat of the virus seriously. Even though the schools are off, children can be seen roaming the corridors of malls as if everything is hunky-dory.
Situation in Karachi is no dif ferent. Such blatant disregard for Covid SOPs is worrisome because it does not only endanger their lives but also poses serious risks to the lives of those who are following all the protocols.
Even the attitude towards the vaccination drive leaves one shell-shocked.
Majority of the people are reluctant to get themselves vaccinated because of the absurd conspiracy theories they read and watch on social media. We need to be more careful. If we are to avoid paying a heavy price, we need to do away with this indifferent attitude towards Covid.
