PAKISTAN army has been deployed across the country to ensure the implementation of Covid-related standard operating procedures (SOPs). Is it not the f ailure of the civil government that it cannot evenensure the implementation of SOPs so that the masses could stay safe from the highly contagious Covid pandemic.
It is always said by the politicians that the army`s role is to protect the borders and that they do not have any role to play in the country, but asking help from the army shows that the civil government has failed to take control of the situation.
If civil governments cannot ensure the implementation of SOPs which are essential to curb the spread of the virus, how can they run other matters of the country effectively? Once President Gen Pervez Musharraf was criticised by a participant at a students` convention in 2006 about army`s role being to protect its borders, and not to rule the country. It was very well clarified by the then president that owing to the failure of civil governments, the army had to intervene as it cannot see the country`s downfall.
