Time to reignite the spirit of `65

2025-05-06
THIS is with reference to the letter `Unity in adversity is of critical value` (May 4).

The internal and external threats we face today are serious. In testing times like these, the strength of anation lies not only in its weaponry and military power, but also in its unity, wisdom and collective resolve. It is time we reflected on our direction and took concrete steps to secure Pakistan`s future.

History teaches us that unity has always been our greatest strength. The PakistanIndia war in 1965 is a shining example of how the entire nation, regardless of caste, creed or politicalleaning, stood together and defeated a much larger adversary. Today, we must rise again above ethnic, sectarian and political divides with the spirit of `Pakistan first` echoing in every Pakistani heart.

Our political leadership must also rise to the occasion. The time for internal rivalries and blame games is long past.

We need maturity, dialogue and a shared vision to overcome the challenges ahead.

A united political front is not a choice; it is a necessity.

Alongside this, our armed forces, which are the guardians of our sovereignty, must be given our complete trust, respect and moral support. Undermining their sacrifices or politicising their role only benefits those who seek to weaken us from within.

We must also focus on strengthening institutions rather than individuals. A prosperous nation is built upon transparent and independent systems in justice, education, policing and the media that serve people without fear or favour.

Personalities come and go, but institutions must endure. Education is another pillar ofnationalsurvival.

An informed and aware population is immune to manipulation. Civic education should be emphasised to instil a sense of responsibility, unity and awareness in our youth.

Today, misinformation and propaganda, especially through digital platforms, arebeing used as instruments to divide and destabilise us. We must combat this with media literacy, and support responsible journalism to ensure that truth prevails over confusion.

No less important is our economy.

Without economic stability, national security remains fragile. We must reduce our dependence on foreign aid, invest in local industries, and create job opportunities to ensure peace and prosperity.

The responsibility of saving Pakistan lies not only upon one office or institution, but on every citizen. With unity, discipline and sincere efforts, we can overcome every threat. Let us reignite the spirit of 1965 and stand together as one nation with one vision.
