Former SSP, seven policemen booked on SHC order

HYDERABAD: A case was registered against former Tando Allahyar SSP Jawaid Baloch and seven of his subordinates who had raided an arms dealer`s shop in Tando Allahyar on June 17, 2014 and arrested him on the charges of tampering with weapons and supplying the arms and ammunition to outlaws.

The case was registered at the B-Section police station of Tando Allahyar late on Saturday evening in compliance with an order passed by the Sindh High Court on an petition filed by the dealer, Irshad Ali Rajput.

According to Tando Allahyar SSP Shahjahan Pathan, the policemen booked along with former SSP Baloch are Inspector Ghulam Hussain Mirani and Anwar Lakho of the local CIA, SI Muneer Abbasi of the Hyderabad CIA, former B-Section SHO Mazhar Mehdi, ASI Zaheer Ahmed Gaho and constables Ghulam Mustafa and Ali Ahmed.

In his FIR, Mr Rajput alleged that two armed members of the raiding team in plain clothes entered his shop, Peshawar Armoury, in the garb of customers and other policemen followed suit. They seized seven rifles, 159 pistols, 235 shotguns, 14,400 cartridges, 3,838 pistol rounds, 164 rifle rounds, 10 licensed weapons kept in the shop for repairs and Rs1.6324 million in cash, he claimed, and stated that the police team took away the shop`s records.

On June 19, 2014, the Hyderabad and Tando Allahyar police claimed to have seized a large number weapons and a big quantity of ammunition in a joint raid on the shop carried out on an intelligence report. They had declared arrest of Irshad Rajput and Darwesh in the `targeted operation`, and claimed that the suspects were tampering with illegal weapons and supply the arms and ammunition to terrorists, extremists and criminals without keeping any record.
