Book on history of literary criticism in Sindhi launched

LARKANA: Writers and intellectuals heaped praise on a literary work on history of literary criticism in Sindhi, Adabi Tangeed jee Tareekh, written by Larkana Commissioner Akber Leghari at the book launch ceremony at Arts Council of Pakistan here on Saturday night.
Dr Ghafoor Memon, Dr Ishaque Samejo, Manzoor Kohyar, Mubark Lashari and Mumtaz Bukhari who performed the book launch ceremony said that criticism and post-modernism were still less written subjects in Sindhi literature.
Dr Memon said that criticism was nothing without deep knowledge. A good and impartial critic should be well-versed in his literature and possess deep knowledge of the subject under review.
He said that a critic should neither be sentimental while reviewing a literary work nor should he develop emotional sympathy with it. An objective and realistic approach was the only way through which a literary piece or book could be weighed properly, he said.
He said that a critic was no less important than an author whose work he reviewed because it was the critic who unearthed unique potential of the author and brought it to the light of the day.He said that if Shakespeare and other prominent writers and poets of his ilk had not got good critics for their literary creations they would not have been able to attract earn global popularity.
Dr Samejo, a prominent writer, said the book authored by Mr Leghari was unique in the sense that it gave a systematic and orderly study of different literary movements that took place in the world of literature in different eras.
Mubark Lashari, a writer, said that criticism and post-modernism were less written subjects in Sindhi. There were still a few writers who had written books on similar subjects, hence, Leghari`s work on history of literary criticism was important, he said.
He said that there was no danger of Sindhi`s death as it was among the 84 languages which UN body had declared not in danger. The language which was taught to children in primary level schooling would never vanish, he said. Mumtaz Bukhari, a story writer, journalist and owner of My Publication, said that Leghari`s book was a result of his deep and vast study. He did not believe in categorizing writers, instead it was his belief to contribute positively and always welcome criticism, he said.
Manzoor Kohyar, an anthropologist and writer, Rizwan Gul, Khalid Chandio and others also spoke at the book launch.
