Eight public works officials arrested for ‘corruption’

LAHORE: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Lahore has arrested eight officials of the Public Works Department on charges of corruption.

According to a spokesman, Sub-Divisional Officer Khursheed Ahmed, Executive Engineer Humera Khurram and sub-engineers Naimat Ali, Abdul Razzaq, Sarwar Bhatti, Muhammad Ishfaq, Muhammad Amin and Syed Shafqat Hussain cashed bogus bills/payments of 19 development projects regarding construction of roads, soling and drainage in Sheikhupura which had been executed by the tehsil municipal administration there.

He said during the inquiry it was established that all projects belonged to three constituencies -- NA-134, PP-166 and PP-169. The suspects did not join the inquiry proceedings.

The NAB after receiving warrants arrested the suspects on Monday. They will be produced before an accountability court on today (Tuesday) for seeking their physical remand.
