ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has no immediate plans to cut diplomatic ties with Qatar, said Foreign Office spokesperson Nafees Zakaria on Monday.

“[The country] has no such plans,” he said, following Monday’s surprise severing of ties with Qatar — the world’s top seller of liquefied natural gas — by Saudi Arabia, and five other Middle East nations.

The countries accused Qatar of supporting extremism, opening up the worst rift in years among some of the most powerful states in the Arab world.

“At the moment there is nothing on Qatar issue, (we) will issue a statement if some development takes place,” Mr Zakaria said.—Reuters
