Pandemonium mars proceedings Resolution against PM passed, claims bar head

BAHAWALPUR: Lahore High Court Bar Association Bahawalpur Bench President Nawazish Ali Peerzada claims that bar`s general body meeting has passed a resolution demanding that the prime minister resign from his office.
In a press release issued on Monday, the bar president (who belongs to PPP) said as long as Nawaz Sharif continued to hold the office of the prime minister, the members of JIT nominated bythe Supreme Court could not perform in an independent manner.
It said the resolution was jointly moved by members Saqib Tariq Chaudhry, Tariq Shaheen, Malik Sadiq Joya, Tahir Mehmood Mufti, Malik Rafique Qamar, Azim Ashraf Cheema.
The release added that the participants raised slogans of `Go Nawaz Go.
It added the participants expressed complete confidence in the judges of the apex court.
Earlier, Dawn learnt that the [requisitioned] meeting was held at the bar room with Mr Peerzadain the chair. As the general secretary started reading out the agenda, the participants pointed out quorum. When counting started, lawyers raised slogans for and against the resignation demand. This caused pandemonium during which President Nawazish Ali Peerzada stood at the rostrum declaring that the resolution against the prime minister was carried out.
Later, bar general secretary Rana Raashid Javed (who is said to be a PML-N activist) along with lawyers Mian Faizul Hassan, Zafar Iqbal Awan and others at ahurriedly-called press conference claimed that the resolution was not passed though an attempt to the effect was made.
He said the bar`s platform could not be used for any `politicalmotive`.
STAYED: Justice Shahid Mubeen of Lahore High Court, Bahawalpur Bench, has stayed the closure of Karkhana-i-Aalat-iZari (agricultural tools unit) and sought a report on June 15 from the project director and other respondents.
The order was issued on a writ petitionof employeesMuhammadMagsood, Shabbeer Ahmed and others.
