Two siblings die, three family members injured on road

TOBA TEK SINGH: A minor boy and his sister died and five others including their mother, a sister and a brother were injured when a truck hit the motorcycle-rickshaw they were sitting in near Chal( 25 Adda in Faisalabad on Sunday.

Rescue 1122 reported that a motorcycle-rickshaw driver was changing tyre after parking it on Tandlianwala-Satiana Road when a truck hit the three-wheeler.

Asher Rashid, 5, and his sister Maria Rashid, 4, died on the spot while their brother Ali Hasnain, 6, sister Zohra Rahid, 3, mother Yasmeen Rashid, 24, besides Anwar Alam, 18, and driver Ghulam Rasool, 35, were injured.

The injured were shifted to Faisalabad`s Allied Hospital.

KILLED: A fourth-class student of a Kamalia government school has beenkilled after rape by the watchman.

Watchman Abdul Ghaffar told investigators that he raped the minor girl and threw her body in the river Ravi after killing her.

ROOF COLLAPSE: Two labourers were injured when the roof of an underconstruction mosque caved in at Faisalabad`s Chak 535 GB, Pathanwala, near Dijkot on Sunday.

A Rescue 1122 ambulance shifted them to Dijkot rural health centre.

They were identified as Irshad Akram, 47, and Danish Ajmal, 19.

ROBBERY: Armed men plundered cash and valuables worth Rs4 million from a doctor`s house at Pirmahal on Saturday night.

Dr Ghulam Mustafa, a resident of Sindhillianwali, informed the Arrouti police that four dacoits entered his house adjacent to his clinic and held up the family. They took away Rs1.7 million, gold ornaments, mobile phone sets and other valuables.

A medical association office-bearers demanded that Chief Minister Hamza Shehbaz take notice of the incident andensure arrestofthe suspects at the earliest. They said it was a case of sheer negligence of police as a constable reached the place after the doctor called 15 emergency and the armed men fled under the cover of aerial firing.

ENTR ANCE T EST: The first entrance test for admission to the University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) undergraduate degree programmes was held on Sunday, says a press release.

As many as 10,500 candidates appeared in the examination and arrangements were made for the students as well as their parents.

According to Admission Committee convener Dr Nadeem Abbas, the test centres were established in 12 cities -Faisalabad, Lahore, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Layyah, Multan, Rahim Yar Khan, Bahawalpur, Toba Tek Singh, Burewala and Deepalpur.

After the entrance test, the candidates will apply for their chosen programmes on main campus and its subcampuses at Toba Tek Singh, Burewala (Vehari) and Deepalpur (Okara).
