Police to start driving licence service in colleges, varsities

RAWALPINDI: The City Traffic Police have started providing door-to-door services for obtaining driving licences in colleges, universities, government-run and private institutions. In addition to this, motorcycle driving instruction sessions have begun at the traffic police office.

A special task has been allocated regarding the provision of licensing services along with road safety. The services have been provided to every citizen of Pakistan in the province of Punjab after elimination of the condition of district and province on the identity card for obtaining a driving licence.

He said that CTO Rawalpindi Taimoor Khan allocated special tasks to the in-charge traffic education wing to provide awareness about traffic laws and road safety along with providing licensing services. He also informedstudents about the importance of driving licence, traffic rules and road safety.

Mr Khan said that a daily schedule of mobile service vans will be prepared by police to provide all facilities related to driving licences in schools, colleges, universities, government and private institutions.

He added that the facilities related to driving licences are being provided 24/7 in the licensing branch of Traffic Headquarters only through original ID card along with the cord.

Door-to-door service has also started while soon driving testing facilities at the tehsil level are being made 24/7. Now, he said, every citizen of Pakistan can avail licensing services in a dignified manner from any service centre of district Rawalpindi. On the orders of DIG traffic and instructions, a motorcycle trainingsession for women is underway in the driving school of Rawalpindi Traffic Police.

Following instructions by DIG Traffic Punjab Mirza Faran Baig, the training session for women interested in learning motorcycle riding at Ghulam Asghar Shaheed Driving School is continuing.

Basic principles, timely measures in case of emergency and complete training on driving a motorcycle with road safety and traffic rules are being given. Mr Khan said that the aim of `Women on Wheels` and `Ride for Change`is to make women more confident and independent in normal life.

If women are empowered, a clear change will be seen in society, he said, adding that the role of women with men is very important for social development. Staff Reporter
