All set for launch of Eid cleanliness operation

LAHORE: Divisional and district administration and the Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) are set to launch Punjab`s biggest three-day cleanliness operation on Eidul Azha.
According to the Eid Operation Plan 2025 for the Lahore division, consisting of the provincial capital and the districts of Kasur, Sheikhupura and Nankana Sahib, the LWMC will have the main role of execution in collaboration with respective public sector organisations.
The standard solid waste management (SWM) activities will focus on prompt collection, storage, transportation and disposal of animal waste during the three days of Eid at the 12 tehsils of the three districts. All the staff will remain available to provide efficient SWM services to the citizens.
The company`s contractors have established camps in respective union councils to address complaints and to efficiently coordinate cleanliness activities.
Awareness material and garbage bags have been made available in these camps. The LWMC and its district chapters would also ensure cleanliness at joint slaughtering points by providing additional resources i.e. rickshaws, pickups, trolleys etc.In addition to containers, temporary waste storage points willbe established wherever feasible.
On Thursday, Lahore Commissioner Zaid Bin Maqsood and the deputy commissioners of Lahore, Kasur, Sheikhupura and Nankana Sahib reached the LWMC headquarters to receive a briefing on the operational plan.
The participants were told that as many as 1.5m and 9m eco-friendly bags were being distributed in Lahore city, and Kasur, Sheikhupura and Nankana.
`There will be a complete digital monitoring throughout the Lahore division on Eidul Azha. As many as 300 camps in Lahore and 454 in the three districts have been set up for immediate resolution ofcomplaints and free supply of bio-degradable waste bags. Cleanliness arrangements in the 30 cattle markets in the division is being ensured,` LWMC MD Babar Sahib Din said.
The commissioner said hotspots in Lahore would be supervised by Safe City and drone cameras. He said that Section 144 had been enforced to deal with those who throw offal in drains, canals and open plots.
He appealed to the citizens to cooperate with the cleanliness teams during the door-to-door visits.
Talking to Dawn, Mr Zaid termed Lahore`s Eid operation plan huge since it was expanded to the entire Lahore divi-sion for the first time. `I am satisfied with the arrangements done so far. And I think there will be no issue in sacrificial animals offal collection and disposal, he hoped.
Rose water, phenyl acquired The Punjab government has acquired thousands of litres of rose water and phenyl to cleanse the province of the smell of animal waste on the occasion of Eidul Azha.
`Over 30,000 litres rose water and 142,000 litres of phenyl have been acquired to be used to cleanse the province of the smell of animal waste on the occasion of Eidul Azha,` Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafique told a press conference here on Thursday.
Flanked by Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari and Special Assistant for Price Control Salma Butt, Mr Rafique said 3m kilo lime had also been acquired for the purpose.
He said that special control rooms had been set up in connection with cleaning cities on Eid days. Azma Bokhari said the service benchmark set last year would be surpassed this year by setting a new record ofcleanliness.
While speaking about prices and sanitation systems on Eid, she said special attention was being given to the cost of cooking and the prices of vegetables.
`Punjab is the only province where food-related planning is being carried out effectively.
