KARACHl: A worker of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) was shot dead and three others were wounded in a suspected targeted attack at an eatery in Federal B Area, police said on Thursday.
While a police spokesperson termed the incident an `outcome of some personal enmity`, the MQM-P saw it an attempt to destroy peace in the city.
Central SSP Zeeshan Shafiq Siddiqi told Dawn that four assailants riding on two motorbikes resorted to indiscriminate firing on some people sitting at the eatery late on Wednesday night and rode away.
The Sharifababd police said that it appeared that their target was Adeel Ali Naqvi, alias Ali Builder, who was sitting there along with his driver and another person.
The SSP said that the firing left Naqvi, his two companions and a restaurant employee wounded. He said that Naqvi and another person, identified as Mustafa, were taken to a private hospital where doctors declared the former dead.
The other two injured persons were shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where doctors said their condition was out of danger.
He said that Naqvi and wounded Mustafa belonged to the MQM-P.
Sharifabad police SHO Mehar Yusuf said that the exact motive for the killing was being investigated.
He said they are waiting for the deceased`s family to lodge an FIR to initiate formal legal proceedings into the incident.
Meanwhile, the MQM-P said such coward acts were part of a heinous conspiracy to sabotage peace in the metropolis.
It said that deceased Ali and wounded Mustafa were office-bearers of Liaquatabad town of the party`s organisational structure.
Later in the evening, the funeral prayers for slain Naqvi was held at an imambargah in Ancholi. He was laid to rest at the Wadi-iHussain graveyard.
