KARACHI: Expressing concern over `continued disruption` of electricity on campus, teachers at Karachi University (KU) complained on Wednesday that `the continued power crisis` was affecting students badly and had also caused huge financial losses to the institution.
`The science departments have been suf-fering a lot due to the power crisis. Our costly imported chemicals are going waste and equipment is developing faults,` said Karachi University Teachers Society (Kuts) president Dr Shakeel Faroogi, adding that electricity supplies were restored to the campus on Wednesday after four days.
Upon contact, a senior KU engineer explained that the problem started during last week`s rain, mainly affecting academic departments on campus.`Initially, the main feeder which supplies electricity to the university developed a fault, which was rectified by K-Electric.
Later, however, two campus substations stopped working which led the power utility to arrange electricity supplies through other sources,` he said, adding that electricity situation had been normalised on the campus in the evening.
It should be mentioned that KU is exempt from load shedding.
