HARIPUR: The Haripur tehsil municipaladministrationhasdecided to name the local roads, intersections, parks and buildings after martyrs from the district to acknowledge their sacrifices for the nation.

It will also hold the Shuhada Convention at Islamabad`s Jinnah Convention Centre on July 8 (Saturday), according to chairman of the Haripur Tehsil Council Samiullah Khan.

He told reporters here that several members of security forces and government departments from Haripur sacrificed their lives in the line of duty but the youth knew very little about them and their sacri-fices.

Mr Khan said martyrs were the real sons of Haripur and therefore, the TMA, besides naming all roads, buildings and parks after martyrs, would display their pictures on the walls and intersections as well to highlight their sacrifices for the youth`s knowledge.

`Our initiative is meant to inculcate the spirit of patriotism and sacrifice in youth to inspire them to fulfil their responsibilities well,` he said.

KILLED: Four people were killed and another injured in separate incidents here the other day.

The Khanpur police said Muneeb Ahmad, an 18-year-old resident of Taxila, drowned in a pond near the Tarnawa Bridge while bathing.

Rescue workers recovered his body and shifted it to the Khanpur tehsil headquarters hospital.

Meanwhile, a boy`s body was found floating in the River Daur near Chappar Bridge here. The Saddar police shifted it to the trauma centre. However, it wasn`t identified.

The doctors said the body had an injury mark on the forehead.

The police believed that the boy was swept away by the strong current in a rain-fed watercourse or River Daur while bathing.

Also in the day, a man was killed in Kahka village as cousins traded fire over a land dispute.

The police said the firing left Waseem Afzal dead and his rival, Shah Zeb, injured.

Meanwhile, a minor boy was run over and injured by a tractor-trolley in Banda Mughlan village here.

Witnesses claimed the incident occurred as the driver reversed the tractor without knowing that 12-year-old Hafiz Abdullah stood on its rear end.
