KP govt and army operation

2016-08-06
THE performance of Pakistan Tehrik-iInsaf in Khyber Pakhtukhwa has been unsatisfactory. For instance, it has witnessed failure of the Pervez Khattak government in building the capacity of the civilian administration to replace the army.

Secondly, has the K-P government any de-radicalisation plan to root out terrorism? Yes, corruption is far less than the levels set by the ANP, PPP and the holy fathers of the MMA; Peshawar city has been cleared of encroachments; the main road leading from Motorway-I toll plaza to Hayatabad has been spruced up; attempts have been made to improve the health and education sectors; the attendance of staff has shown improvement; a law for local bodies has been legislated; the police department has been given resources and is quite active; and the waste disposal mechanism has been streamlined.

All is not well in KP. No university or major hospital for tertiary treatment has been built.

There`s no special cardio-care hospital in the province. Projects move at a snail`s pace compared to Punjab. Public transport in major cities, including Peshawar, is in bad condition. There are multiple centres of power and Mr Khattak is at times defied.

Has KP been able to address the most challenging threat terrorism? The PTI government seems indifferent to it, probably the army is handling it independently. What is the role of the KP government in resettling and rehabilitating the IDPs from Waziristan? The 13-point agenda of change and development must include a comprehensive deradicalisation plan to root out terrorism.
