KOHAT: The treasury benches on Friday failed to get the district budget approved when opposition members pointed out that a government schoolteacher, claiming to be the member of the district government, fraudulently polled her vote.
The opposition members claimed that the budget could not be passed as the nazim and naib nazim stood disqualified from their respective positions under articles 62 and 63 of the constitution for allowing the woman schoolteacher to cast her vote despite the fact that she was no more a member of the council.
Naseem Afridi, the opposition leader in the Kohat District Council, pointed out that a government schoolteacher identified as Ambreen who claimed to be still the member of the district council, polled her vote during the counting for approval of the budget.
He and that district councillors Sajid Iqbal and Waheed Hayat pointed out that the teacher had joined government school, Jalalabad, four months ago and her membership of the house had automatically ended.
But nazim Maulana Niaz Mohammad and the naib nazim did not bar her from casting her vote despite knowing the fact.
Therefore, he said under articles 62 and 63 of the constitution, the nazim and naib nazim stood disqualified as they had lied in the house.
Mr Afridi also stated that the speaker of the house used his vote when there was a tie.
Therefore, he said the budget stood cancelled and would be delayed till the solution of the two issues.
He said that they would knock at the doors of the lower and high courts to get justice. He said that the district nazim was a puppet who played in the hands of PML-N and JUI-F.
