LAHORE: The Young Doctors Association (YDA) Pakistan has proposed to the government setting up of anti-quackery vigilance committees at the division and district levels all over the Punjab.
Comprising the deputy commissioner, district police officer, district prosecutor concerned besides representatives of doctors` organisations and other relevant departments, the committees should hold meetings on a monthly basis to review performance of the anti-quackery teams, said YDA Pakistan Secretary Dr Salman Kazmi in a statement on Sunday.
`Quacks are responsible for spread of Hepatitis B and C besides AIDS in society and wrong treatment by them is leading to kidney failure of people at an alarming rate,` he said.
He appealed to the chief minister, health minister and chief secretary to issue directions to the officers concerned to form these committees at the earliest so that the anti-quackery campaign, launched under directions of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, could be made a success.
Dr Kazmi also urged the chief secretary to hold a monthly meeting at the provincial level so that progress on this campaign could be monitored and prosecution of the cases registered againstguackscould be expedited.
