LAHORE: The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf workers and supporters staged a protest demonstration against what they alleged fake cases lodged against newly-elected MPA Nadeem Abbasi Bara and other activists in front of Lahore Press Club on Sunday.

The protesters led by Malik Amir Khokhar and other leaders chanted slogans against the Saddar SP and Hanjerwal police. The protesters were carrying party flags and a number of placards bearing inscriptions regarding demand for release of the MPA-elect and his workers. They also demanded that the Chief Justice of Pakistan should take notice of police`s entry into houses, ransacking properties and harassing of women.

Speaking at the protest demonstration, Malik Amir Khokhar alleged that the police was harassing residents to give false witness against MPA-elect Nadeem Abbas Bara. He alleged that the Saddar SP and Hanjerwal SHO in connivance with political opponentslodged cases against the MPA-elect.

He said the police had failed to prove any allegation against Nadeem Bara despite getting five-day physical remand granted by anti-terrorism court and now the court remanded him in custody for three days.

In this situation, he said the police were pressurising Nadeem Bara and his relatives for reconciliation and withdrawal of applications regarding police`s highhandedness, ransacking of properties and harassing women.

The protesters appealed to the Chief Justice of Pakistan, caretaker chief minister and IG to suspend the Saddar SP, Hanjerwal SHO and other policemen involved and hold an impartial inquiry into the matter. They said the policemen were trying to influence the probe.
