Govt asked to help stop atrocities against Rohingyas

ISLAMABAD: Religious parties from the four main sects in the country have urged the government to take action to stop atrocities against Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar and have said that even the military alliance of Islamic nations against terror isnotspeaking upabouttheissue.

Addressing a press conference at the National Press Club on Tuesday, members of the Milli Yehkjehti Council (MYC) said the atrocities committed by the armed forces of Myanmar is state terrorism and demanded that the Pakistani government and other Muslim countries raise the issue at the International Court of Justice.

The international community and those affiliated with human rights activism should take notice of the statement by the chief of the Burmese armed forces regarding the genocide of the Rohingya population, speakersat the conference said.

The alliance of Islamic parties also demanded that the government raise the issue with various diplomats and approach the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation to take steps in this regard.

MYC has demanded that the government forward a high-level delegation to Bangladesh and send aid and support to the Rohingya refugees there.

MYC members criticized Muslim nations and the international community for only criticising the genocide of the Rohingya population verbally.

The MYC has demanded economic and social sanctions against Myanmar if its rulers do not stop the genocide and start following international laws.

They also suggested an international arms embargo on the country so weapons are not used there on unarmed civilians.

They demanded an end to state ter-rorism by the military of Myanmar against Rohingya citi ens, who have been deprived of their basic human and civil rights for decades.

Some 500,000 Rohingya`s have been displaced and neighbouring countries are not willing to take them in.

The MYC has demanded those who have fled their homeland be re-settied.

Various United Nations agencies have termed the atrocities in Myanmar ethnic cleansing but the government of Myanmar is not paying heed to these resolutions.

The press conference was attended by Mian Aslam from the Jamaat-i-Islami, Pir Abdul Raheem Nakshbandi, Allama Iqbal Rizvi, Allama Amin Shaheedi, Prof Khalid Saifullah from the Jamiat Ahl-i-Hadis, Maulana Umar Farooq from Jamaat Ahl-i-Hadis, Allama Syed Naseer Moosvi from the Islami Tehreek Pakistan, MYC deputy secretary general Saqib Akbar and others.
