KARACHI: The legal fraternity observed on Tuesday a boycott in the subordinate judiciary in the city to condemn ‘genocide’ of Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar.

Speaking at the general body meeting of the Karachi Bar Association, KBA president Naeem Qureshi, general secretary Khalid Nawaz Marwat and other representatives of lawyers condemned the atrocities against the Muslims in Myanmar.

They also denounced the silence of the United Nations and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) over mass killings and forced displacement of Rohingya Muslims.

They also urged the Pakistan government to summon the ambassador of Myanmar to record official protest and reconsider its diplomatic relations with that country.

The KBA through a resolution asked the United Nations, the OIC and the Islamic word to immediately intervene and play their role to secure the safety and rehabilitation of the persecuted Rohingya community.

After the general body meeting, the lawyers took out a rally from the City Courts and staged a sit-in on M.A. Jinnah Road.
