Death toll in tanker-van accident reaches seven

BAHAWALPUR: The death toll in the Monday`s LPG tanker-van collision reached seven as two critically injured minor girls succumbed to their wounds at a hospital in Alipur on Tuesday.
The deceased identified as nine-year-old Kiran Shehzadi and seven-year-old Khadeja Bibi belonged to Alipur, from where the marriage party had left for Thul Hamza near Liaquatpur in Rahim Yar Khan district, but met with the accident.
Meanwhile, Uch Sharif police have registered a case under sections 337-G, 332, 279, 427 and 109 of PPC against tanker driver Muhammad Sadiq on charges of negligence and carelessness.
The case was registered on the complaint of Muhammad Dilshad Maqsood, a relative of the victims.
Af ter the accident, the driver, who belonged to Sadigabad (Rahim Yar Khan district) managed his escape and could not be arrested sofar.
PATIENTS: About 11,000 patients, including around 200 hit by gastroenteritis, were treated during three days of Eidul Azha at the emergency and accidents ward of the Bahawal Victoria Hospital (BV H).
Director emergencies and accidents of the BVH emergency ward, Dr. Aamir Bokhari, told Dawn on Tuesday that the hospital was open round the clock during three [Eid] days and the holidays of medics and paramedical staff had been cancelled.
He said those who contracted gastroenteritis took 24 to 36 hours [for recoveryj, and were provided with free of cost treatment in the emergency ward.
