CTD arrests three for illegal hide collection

SAHIWAL: The Co unter-Ter r or i sm Department (CTD) arrested three persons for illegally collecting animals` hides in Mir Dad Mafi and Noor Shah villages on Tuesday.

The arrested people, Muhammad Nadeem, Ikramullah and Muhammad Ashfaq, belonged to banned outfits.

The CTD seized 30 hides from them.

The district government had allowed 63 organisations to collect hides of sacrificial animais during Eid days.

ROAD CRASH: Two boys, of Mian Channu, were killed when their motorcycle collided with an oil tanker near Fatho Mor on Multan Road on Tuesday.

Asif, 13, was driving the motorcycle while Christoffer, 11, was riding pillion. Near Fatho Mor, the collision occurred with the oil tanker. Both boys died at the scene.

The driver fled the scene.

Both Asif and Christoffer were cousins.

NO RALLY: The district administration did not allow a procession on Tuesday, planned for Defence Day onWednesday, by the Tahafuz-i-Sahiwal Forum.

Last year, the forum had held a motorcycle procession to pay tribute to the armed forces.

Nadeem Chachu, one of rally organisers, said groups of youth and motorcyclists would gather at MS ground today (Wednesday).

Sarmad Shafgat said small processions would be taken out from Jahaz Ground, Tariq Bin Ziyyad Colony, Batala School, Fateh Sher Colony, Mazdoor Puli and Ghala Mandi.

CALLS: Rescue 1122 received 53,599 calls in August, of them 2,390 were emergency related calls while the remaining 45,506 were obnoxious or unnecessary calls.

Rescuers shifted 2,400 injured people to hospitals and administered first aid to 404 people.

The Rescue 1122 office says 687, 1,243, 22, 139, eight, one and 299 calls were related to road accidents, medical emergency, fire, crimes, drowning, building collapse and of miscellaneous nature respectively.

District Emergency Officer Dr Khalid Abdullah told Dawn the public should be educated bout using Rescue 1122 for emergencies.
