DADU: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has launched investigation into alleged embezzlement of Rs650 million in 141 development schemes of the district’s highways department.
The NAB Karachi issued notices to all the officers concerned of the department and a letter and after receiving a written complaint from Ashfaq Malik, owner of Daniyal Construction Company, said sources in the NAB.
The sources told Dawn that the letter had sought report of the development schemes. The complaint accused Mukhtiar Ahmed Sameja, district accounts officer; Hasan Jan Changezi, engineer; Mohammad Ali Makhdumi and other officers of being involved in the mega corruption, said the sources.
They said that Makhdumi had distributed tenders for 141 schemes worth Rs650 million among his favourite contractors in connivance with members of the committee concerned.
The bid for awarding the tenders for the schemes was uploaded on the website of the Sindh Public Procurement Regularity Authority during Eid holidays, said the sources, adding that it was illegal to upload bids during public holidays.
