Ivory is the new red at Bridal Week

By Faisal Quraishi 2012-10-06
LAHORE, Oct 5: As trends come and go, some linger on a tad longer.

But from the looks of it the rule of red as the colour of choice for the traditional bride may finally be over as couturier after couturier continues to forecast ivory as the new red.

Although the transient is still in an early stage, the tell-tale signs have fallen in place as designers continue to either use it as itself, as a base colour or tone down the play of red in bridal joras by fusing it with other colours.

Some more modern and bold in their approach have taken red totally off their colour spectrum and replaced it with ivory which seemingly gives them more room to play around with design elements increasingly featuring diamantes and Swarovski crystals.

Whatever the scenario, we may just be witnesses to history in the making as red releases its stranglehold on prospective modern-day brides who are willing to look different on their big day.

Day Three of the PFDC L`Oreal Paris Bridal Week 2012 started with the trends show featuring Toni&Guy with Mohsin Ali showcasing gold block print on ivory dresses with strong western andeastern influences in cuts and silhouettes. Saris, lehengas, long shirts and more featured in the collection that infused gota with other embellishments and somewhat extreme styling by Toni&Guy.

Inspired by the seasons, Elan by Khadija Shah played around with new form of embellishment along with threadwork, gold and silver metal work, fluid movement in clothes, layers, pastel colour palette such as mauve on candy pink, an ivory base with satrangi duppatta, and with cuts bordering on traditional to experimental. The handbags in this segment were by Passion for Fashion.

Layla Chatoor featured her cutwork collection in bridals with ivory, turquoise and magenta colour tones with the traditional red.

Nickie Nia closed the day by presenting a 17th century Baroque period-inspired collection with dramatic drapery aimed at presenting the modern woman as a steel magnolla. Ivory featured prominently here in bridals, which was also fused with other colours to present a collection that bore their signature look.

Day Four, the final day of PLBW, will feature Fahad Hussayn, Nida Azwer, Saai and HSY with hair and make-up by Khawar Riaz with Adnan Pardesy for the stylist show.
