Cops thrash, injure power dept employees

GILGIT: Personnel of Gonarfarm police station in Diamer on Monday beat up and injured three employees of GB water and power department for not providing electricity to the police station during the loadshedding hours.

The injured were admitted to the hospital, while the SHO of the police station has been suspended.

Diamer water and power employees union president Arshad Khan alleged that four policemen led by Gonarfarm police station SHO Andleeb Khan entered the nearby office of water and power department on the night between Sunday and Monday, and beat up the gatekeeper, Sabdar Khan, with sticks when he refused to allow them in.

The cops also beat up two linemen, later took them to police station and again tortured them, causing injuries to them.

Arshad Khan said the police were annoyed with water and power employees for not providing uninterrupted electricity supply to their police station during loadshedding time.

Later, the injured employees were shifted to hospital on a government ambulance.

Following the incident, water and power department employees staged a protest sit-in outside Diamer DHQ hospital.

They vowed to continue protest till registration of FIR against the erring policemen.-Correspondent
