`Peace bodies to be activated for Muharram security`

LAKKI MARWAT: The district police on Monday finalised the Muharram security plan for Lakki Marwat saying they with the support of other law-enforcement agencies will ensure provision of foolproof security to mourners during the holy month.

District police officer Ali Akbar Shah chaired the meeting, where SP (investigation) Tauheed Khan, SDPO Lalcl(i Khankhel and station house officers were in attendance.

The participants discussed law and order situation and security arrangements in the district for Muharram and said the police were committed to ensuring peace and religious harmony during the month.

Under the security plan, the bomb disposal squad will sweepimambargahs and other public places and clear routes of mourning processions, while the policemen in plain clothes will be deployed in and around Mohallah Sayyedan and in parts of Lakki city to monitor the people`s movement.

Besides, thoroughfares leading to the procession routes will also be blocked. Policemen will be deployed on rooftops on those routes for surveillance.

Peace committees will be activated to help the police maintain law and order.

The meeting was told that leaves of all policemen had been cancelled.

The district police chief urged leaders of both Shia and Sunni sects and peace committee members to play the due effective role to ensure peace in the district duringMuharram, especially on 10th.

He asked the police to increase patrol and check activities of miscreants and ordered action against those displaying arms and taking law into their hands.

TEACHER KILLED: A government schoolteacher was gunned down near Ghulam Samti village of Naurang town here on Monday.

The police said rivals Abdul Majid and Shafatullah were suspected of killing Alcram Khan over an old dispute.

They said the teacher posted to the Government High School, Nar Mohammad Ghaznikhel, was ambushed when he was on the way to school.

The police said teacher`s brother Inayatullah Khan and relative Mir Alam were unhurt in the gun attack.

The body was handed over thefamily after being autopsied at the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital.

The police said they had begun investigation after registering a murder case against suspects on the complaint of Inayatullah Khan.

SPORTS TOURNAMENT: The education department has divided the high and higher secondary schools of Lakki Marwat into four zones for the annual district school sports tournament slated to begin on Oct 26.

A decision to this effect was taken during a meeting held at Government Higher Secondary School, Michenkhel, in Lakki city on Monday. Among participants were DEO Nazir Khan, DDEO Mohammad Shiraz, ADO Sharifullah Khan, and headmasters and principals of high and higher secondaryschools.-Correspondent
