Speakers say teachers need special attention of govt

TIMERGARA: Different functions were held in various areas of Lower Dir on Monday to mark the World Teachers`Day.

Khwaendo Kor (KK), a non-governmental organisation, in collaboration with Development In Literacy (DIL) organised a function at its office which was attended by social and political activists, local elders and teachers. Zaibun Nissa, the district education officer, was chief guest on the occasion.

Two teachers Hanifur Rehman and Saeeda Jan were awarded life time achievement award while Haleema Bibi, Afsheen and Ria Hassan got the best teacher award.

KK district chief Ibrash Pasha, Zaibun Nissa and Shaheen Begum addressed the function and said that teachers were nation builders and they needed special attention of the government.

The Islami Jamiat Tulba Maidan zone also observed the day by holding different functions at Mirgam Bala, Zaimdara and Kumbarr.

IJT Maidan zone chief Bilal, Bazm-i-Shaheen president Hanif Khan, Lal Qilla tehsil nazim Eng Hanif ullah and others addressed the functions.

They said that teachers could lead the nation towards peace, prosperity and development. IJT also distributed bouquets among the teachers on the occasion.

The private schools` association also marked the day by arranging different functions in Ouch, Rabat, Gulabad, Shamshi Khan, Khall, Munda and Khazana.

URDU: Tanzeem-i-Asateza Pakistan central president Prof Mian Mohammad AkramonMondaydemanded of the central and provincial governments to implement the Supreme Court`s decision regarding Urdu as official language.

During his visit to the district, Mr Akram said that the state had been violating the 1973 Constitution for 28 years. He said that not more than 20 per cent population of the country knew English while 80 per cent of it was familiar with Urdu. Correspondent
