LAHORE: The National Accountability Bureau, Lahore, has arrested a suspect for misappropriation of public funds in a case against former Accountant General Punjab (AGP) Zahid Rashid.

According to NAB, Shakeel Khan was involved in Rs92m embezzlement through fake claims. It said the suspect committed the offence of abetting misappropriation of public funds by interfering in operations of AG Punjab Office despite being a private person.

The suspect took the token machine in his custody and filed fake claims of Walled City of Lahore Authority (WCLA). He got the fake claims initially punched in the system and subsequently used to influence the staff of AG Punjab Office to ignore all pre-audit mechanisms.

“The cheques prepared in lieu of these fake claims were also received by Shakeel Khan,” it said. NAB on Thursday acquired his seven days physical remand from the accountability court.
