Six booked for thrashing Mepco SDO

BAHAWALNAGAR: Six armed men allegedly thrashed a sub-divisional officer of the Multan Electric Power Company (Mepco) for getting a power theft case registered against them at Chak 391/HR, Marot, on Thursday.

The suspects also ransacked the Mepco office and snatched Rs13,400 from the SDO, Behzad Ali, besides taking away some official documents from his office.

Marot police registered a case against a suspect, Allah Yar and his five unidentified accomplices.

HONOUR KILLING: An 18-year-old girl was allegedly strangled by her father for `honour` at Mauza Moranwala on Thursday.

Madressah police Station House Officer Sarfaraz Hussain Tarar told Dawn that the girl had eloped with a man resid-ing in Burewala about three weeks ago.

The man, however, sent the girl back to her parents on the orders of a local panchayat.

Later, he filed a petition in the court for the girl`s recovery, claiming that she was his wife, the SHO said.

On her return, the girl was subjected to physical torture and then strangled by her father Jan Muhammad with the help of his four accomplices.

Police arrested the suspect who confessed to having committed the crime.

Further investigation was underway.

SUICIDE: Muhammad Ali, an official of the Bahawalnagar District Headquarters Hospital, allegedly committed suicide by taking poisonous pills used to preserve wheat for unknown reasons on Thursday.

A-Division police handed over the body to thefamilyof thedeceased.
