Man hurt as DC office roof plaster collapses

MIRPURKHAS: A man suffered serious injuries when plaster of roof in the old building of deputy commissioner`s office collapsed on him on Friday morning. Luckily over a dozen other people and staffers who were present there at that time remained safe.

Sources said that general branch portion of the DC office had been in a dilapidated condition. The injured man was identified as Allah Dino Shah. He was rushed to Mirpurkhas Civil Hospital where he was admitted for treatment.

An official said on condition of anonymity that in-charge of the general branch had complained to the deputy commissioner about the building`s vulnerability several times but in vain.

Health minister`s surprise visit Sindh Minister for Health Dr Azra Pechuho has warned the health department officers to improve conditions at Mirpurkhas Civil Hospital by taking drastic measures, ensuring cleanliness and providing quality food to patients and free of cost medicines.

Accompanied by PPP MPA Syed Zulfikar Ali Shah, the minister paid a surprise visit to the hospital on Friday and heard patients and their relatives` complaints against administrative staff, doctors and paramedics. She sought information on provision of free of cost medicines to poor patients and expressed serious anguish over insanitary conditions in the hospital.

She warned the civil surgeon to work honestly for the poor in a spirit of service and improve system through strict measures and prudent use of budget.
