Tribute paid to Yousuf Nagori

HYDERABAD: Relatives, friends and colleagues paid glowing tributes to Dawn`s photographer Yousuf Nagori at a condolence reference organised by the Hyderabad Union of Journalists (HUJ) at the local press club here on Friday.

HUJ president Hameedur Rehman presided over the session attended by Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences (LUMHS) Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Bikha Ram, Sindh general health services former director Dr Hadi Bux Jatoi, Hyderabad Press Club president Nasir Shaikh and secretary Abdul Rauf Chandio, former HUJ president Junaid Khanzada, Altaf Koti, Akhter Pirzada, Dr Saulat Jafri, Ali Wahid, Tahseen Nagori, the late photographer`s nephew Hameed Nagori and others.

The speakers said Yousuf Nagori was always willing to work regardless of conditions. He even used to go to Karachi to deliver his photos by trainor by road when email and internet services were not common, they said, adding that he had a peculiar kind of temperament which he could not change.

They said he had three phases of allment; he fully recovered in two of them, but the last one proved fatal for him.

He was even diagnosed as having cancer by a doctor, but his diagnosis perhaps remained incorrect and Nagori remained hale and hearty for several years after that, they said.

At one point of time, he was admitted to a private hospital, but he never disclosed it to his friends, they said and added that perhaps he did not want to bother anyone.

They said he was not willing to be shifted to hospital despite his nephew Tahseen Nagori`s insistence, but had to be shifted due to weakness.

They said the photographer always tried to help the needy as much as possible.

Yousuf Nagori also worked for international wire services, but later he only worl(ed for Dawn, they said.
