Relocation of Mansehra girls` school ordered

MANSEHRA: Deputy commissioner Dr Qasim Ali Khan on Tuesday ordered the immediate relocation of the Matsarian girls` primary school from a highly dilapidated building to a rented one to prevent possible damage to human life.

He issued the orders during a meeting on development schemes executed here in different sectors under the Sustainable Development Goals programme.

The participants included heads of devolved departments, lawmakers, members of the district committee on the status of women, and representatives of minorities. The DC said the district administration had completed 146 development schemes in dif ferent sectors under SDGinitiative.

`We had executed a total of 215 development schemes in dif ferent sectors and 146 of them have been completed at the cost of Rs450 million,` hesaid.

Dr Qasim said the SDG programme was launched in the financial year 201718 but funds were released for it the next year. He said work on 51 development schemes was in progress, while 18 projects would be inaugurated shortly.

`We will constitute four committees to monitor progress on SDG schemes and remove hurdles to their execution,` he said.

On the occasion, federal parliamentary secretary for water resources Salah Mohammad Khan lauded the completion of the projects under SDGs.

`This programme is meant for the uplift of the people and the district administration is working hard to achieve targets set by the government to bring about a positive change in the people`slives,` he said.

Additional deputy commissioner Nazima Shaheen and programme coordinator Farah Naz told participants thatfunds would be earmarked for schemes meant to directly benefit women.

She said the administration was working for the development of women, transgender persons and people with disabilities.

TRAFFIC RESTORED: The Frontier Works Organisation on Tuesday restored traffic between Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and GilgitBaltistan after clearing landslides from the remaining portion of the Karakoram Highway.

The artery was blocked to traf fic on Saturday evening af ter heavy rainf all triggered landslides from Shatan Pari area to Karo area. The vehicles stranded on its both sides lef t for their respecdve desdnadons.

The blocked portion of the artery from Shatan Pari area to Pattan, the district headquarters of Lower Kohistan, was cleared on Monday. Correspondent
