Textiles & energy crisis

2014-11-06
IN Pakistan, the textile sector consumes around 38 per cent of electricity in chemical processing, 34pc in spinning, 23pc in weaving and 5pc for miscellaneous purposes. It is no wonder the performance of the textile sector has declined owing to the energy crisis.

A friend told me about two years back that more than 40pc of Pakistan`s Textile industry and around 0.2 million power looms have shifted to Bangladesh due to energy crisis in Pakistan.

The textileindustryis considered as the back bone of Pakistan. About 200,000 families are directly or indirectly associated with it. When the industry is going through such a critical situation, naturally the employees are traumatised by this situation.

The government needs to do something on a war-footing about the energy crisis, otherwise the nation will see another economic crisis erupting in Pakistan.
