KARACHI: The Sindh High Court on Thursday dismissed a contempt application of Dr Asim Hussain`s wife against Rangers for flouting the court order about the medical facilities to her husband after the applicant informed the court that she did not want to press her plea.

A two-judge bench headed by Justice Sajjad Ali Shah was hearing the contempt of court application against the Rangers for allegedly flouting the court order regarding provision of medical facilities to Dr Asim, a close aide of former president Asif Ali Zardari.

The bench dismissed the contemptapplication after the applicant`s counsel told the judges that his client had instructed him not to press her application seeking contempt proceedings against the Rangers` officials.

In their response to the application, the Rangers had informed the court that Dr Asim was being provided all required medical treatment in custody.

Colonel Amjad Jamil Iqbal of the Abdullah Shah Ghazi Rangers had filed a counter affidavit stating on oath that Dr Asim was provided all required medical treatment, details of which had already been submitted in court by Deputy Assistant Director Medical Service, Pakistan Rangers (Sindh), on Sept 23.

He stated that the Rangers had pro-fessional and dedicated team of doctors and consultants with well-equipped laboratories and hospitals.

The Rangers officer said that requisite attention was being paid to Dr Asim by the Rangers in compliance with the court order. He denied that courts orders were disobeyed or contempt of court was committed.

In her application, Dr Asim`s wife had alleged that the Rangers did not comply with the SHC`s earlier directive to the paramilitary force to provide medical care to him.

Dr Asim was arrested on Aug 26 for his alleged involvement in a graftrelated scam and later the Rangers informed a court about detaining him for 90 days.
