DCO orders probe into bad state of greenbelts

By Our Correspondent 2015-11-06
SIALKOT: District Coordination Officer Dr Asif Tufail has ordered a probe into the bad state of greenbelts where plants have either been eaten up by animals or destroyed due to negligence of tehsil municipal administration (TMA) officials.

The TMA had established green belts along all the main city roads, including the Kashmir Road, Defence Road, Khawaja Safdar Road, Paris Road, Khadim Ali Road, Gohadpur Road, Circular Road, Sardar Begum Hospital Road, Jail Road and Katchery Road by planting the costly saplings and plants to beautify the city.

However, the TMA did not develop any mechanism to protect them and now most of the green belts don`t look green anymore and speak volumes of negligence of the officials concerned.

All the plants have either dried out or eaten up by stray cattle and all the green belts, meant for beautification, have now become `resting place` of the stray cattle, dogs and other animals.
