By Our Staff Reporter 2014-12-06
LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Friday issued notices to federal and Punjab governments on a petition seeking judicial inquiry into manhandling of visually impaired persons by police and enforcement of Disabled Persons (Employment and Rehabilitation) Act.

The Judicial Activism Panel (JAP), a public interest law firm, filed the petition and sought action against police personnel involved in manhandling the members of Pakistan Association of Blind.

JAP`s counsel Advocate Azhar Siddique pleaded that the federal and Punjab governments be directed to implement policy of 2pc quota for disabled persons in all appointments.

He asked the court to also summon 10-year record of the appointments made in federal and provincial departments to check whether the quota for disabled persons was implemented.

Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah adjourned hearing till Dec 22 and sought replies from the respondent authorities.
