PRIME Minister Nawaz Sharif met his Indian counterpart in Kathmandu and exchanged greetings with him. Earlier, he visited India to attend Nerendra Modi`s oath-taking ceremony.
He also sent gifts to Modi just to please him. All these were welcome gestures by the Pakistan prime minister. It is, however, sad that the Indian government never replied in the same coin.
Our history of over six decades is reflective of this hostile attitude by India.
Pakistan always presented an olive branch to India.
Kashmir is indeed a bone of contention between the two countries, and peace cannot be achieved without solving this core issue.
The best possible way for both the countries is to resolve the Kashmir issue on humanitarian grounds. The water issue is also a major problem. Solution to the Kashmir issue can pave way for the solution to the water issue.
The ball is now in the court of the Indian government. The Indian rulers should send a positive message to the Pakistani prime minister. The Indian people should force their rulers to show some sense of responsibility.
As a Kashmiri and resident of South Asia, I request the people of India not to allow their rulers to waste their resources to flex their muscles to the world. They should know that it was India whose rulers dragged this region into decades-long rivalries.
