SUKKUR: A large number of growers of Ghotki and Ubauro blocked National Highway on Friday in protest against decrease in sugar cane price by Sindh government.The protesters who burnt tyres on the highway and held a sit-in told journalists that the government had fixed sugar cane price at Rs182 per 40 kilogrammes two weeks ago but later decreased it to Rs155 per 40kg under sugar millers` pressure.The said that with that low a price they could not even recoverthe costofproduction and demanded the government immediately increase the price to save them from incurring financiallosses.
The blockade continued for five hours, causing longqueues of vehicles to remain stuck up. Later, deputy commissioner of Ghotki reached thereandpersuadedtheprotesters to lift the blockade.
Meanwhile, many growers had also blocked National Highway at SindhPunjab border at Kamoon Shaheed.
