Soldier killed, six hurt in rocket attack

KALAYA: One soldier was killed and six others were injured critically when suspected militants fired rockets on a military camp in Kalaya, the headquarters of Orakzai Agency here.

Security officials told Dawn on condition of anonymity that miscreants fired over a dozen rockets on the army camp from Khwa Dara and Sherin Dara areas. The rocket attack continued for two hours destroying building of a private bank in the area.

Naib Sobedar (retd) Sanober Khan was killed, while six security personnel, including one civilian, were injured in the rocket attack.

The injured were identified as soldiers Gul Rehman, Abduz Zaman, Kamal Asghar and civilian, Sultan Zahid. The names of the two injured soldiers could not be ascertained as yet. The injured were taken to hospital.

Following the attack, the security forces targeted militant hideouts in Khwa Dara and Sherin Dara with artillery fire. However, no casualty was reported from the rugged terrain of the hamlets. The exchange of fire created fear and panic among the residents of Kalaya, Perozkhel and Injani localities.
