Money changer robbed of Rsl.4m in Kohat

KOHAT: Unknown robbers on Friday snatched Rs1.4 million from a money changer and injured him on resistance in Chakarkot area here.

Police said that Mohammad Hussain, running hundi business in Tirah bazaar, was going to his home when two armed robbers stopped him and asked to hand over the bag to them.

He showed some resistance in giving them the bag after which one of the robbers fired at him in the arm.

They took away the bag full of money.

The trader registered FIR in the Ustarzai police station about the incident.

TWO STUDENTS KILLED: Two students of Convent School were killed when a pickup and a motorcycle collided near Bahadar Kot grid station on Friday.

The students were identified as Mohammad Jamil, resident of Kohat city, and Sawal Masih, resident of CIA choki in the cantonment.

They were grade 6 students.

The Saddar police said that the pickup was over taking another vehicle on Rawalpindi road when it hit the motorcycle coming from the opposite direction. The driver of the pickup escaped the area. However, the vehicle was impounded by the police.

The bodies of the students were handed over to their parents by the police after registration of double murder case against the absconding driver of the pickup.

SHOPKEEPERS FINED: The local administration demolished illegal structures, sent 10 shopkeepers to prison and fined scores of others during a drive against encroachments, unhygienic conditions and over-charging on Friday.

Kohat assistant commissioner Mohammad Ali Asghar raided tandoors (ovens) in the old bus stand and on the Hangu road and sent five owners to prison for selling roti at lower than the officially prescribed weight.

The assistant commissioner also ticketed 16 filling stations, people selling products, including meat in open shops, and collected a fine of Rs128,000.

The official also conducted snap checkingin the main bazaar and fined 14 shopkeepers. Similarly, three meat sellers at tehsil bazaar were fined Rs7,000 for unhygienic conditions at their shops.
