RECENTLY, I approached NAB, Karachi, to see the director-general DG, Sindh, regarding misappropriation in a certain department. Af ter making over a dozen calls personally to DG NAB`s office, I could only succeed in meeting the lowest echelons of NAB, who in spite of my insistence denied my contact with the DG, NAB, Sindh. On requesting the phone numbers of the DG, Sindh, and the chairman, the answer was that they did not know.

On going through the website of NAB I picked up NAB Chairman`s number as 111-622-622. Here again, after making over a dozen calls, there was no response.One can imagine that in the absence of timely action by the government department, we are only providing perpetrators of a crime to consolidate their actions.

Why have these monstrosities been created who are devouring taxpayers` money without any benefit to the common man? I suggest that every government or public office must display all valid phone numbers and email addresses of the head of the institution down the line in the reception area.

If this is not done, complainants will continue to be harassed and made to unecessarily run from pillar to post.
