Faith leaders unite against climate change

SWAT: Leaders of many faith-based communities urged cooperation in the fight against climate change.
On the concluding day of a two-day workshop in Saidu Sharif, leaders from Muslim, Christian, Sikh and Hindu communities highlighted the pressing need for collective action to combat environmental destruction.
Faith leaders, public personalities, academicians, and media representatives were all present at the workshop, which was hosted by the Centre for Social Education and Development with the assistance from the US Consulate in Peshawar.
Discussions revolved around partnerships with local government officials, civil society organisations, and academic institutions. Participants stressed involving youth and women in community mobilisation, highlighting their vital roles in fostering sustainable change. One participant remarked, `People of all faiths and backgrounds are affected by climate change; it does not discriminate.` `As religious leaders, we play a special role in motivating our communities to take action as a group to preserve the environment for coming generations.
Attendees identified approaches such as collaborating with local governments to implement sustainability policies, raising awareness through civil society organisations, and educating the younger generation about environmental stewardship. They emphasised the importance of empowering women and youth to take leadership roles in community adaptation efforts.
The role of the media in addressing climate challenges was also highlighted. Journalists pledged to amplify the workshop`s key messages and promote action. The event concluded with a shared commitment to protect the environment through collective efforts.
REVISED FARE SCHEDULE: The Regional Transport Authority (RTA) of Malakand Division released an updated fare schedule for diesel-powered vehicles in response to the federal government`s decision to raise diesel prices, effective from December 1.
The increase has led to adjustments in transport fares across various routes in the district. For instance, travelling from Mingora to Peshawar now costs Rs476 for a flying coach and Rs451 for a standard bus. Those choosing the motorway route will pay Rs546 for a flying coach and Rs516 for a standard bus.
Fares for nearby destinations, such as Mardan, Pir Baba, Kalam, and others, have also been updated according to the new rates. For example, travelling from Mingora to Mardan now costs Rs296 for a flying coach, while a trip to Pir Baba costs Rs213. Correspondent
