GWADAR is projected to be the economic corridor not only of Pakistan but of the region. It is unfortunate that the people of Gwadar and its adjoining villages are running from pillar to post for potable water even for drinking. All the morealarming is the fact that the acute water shortage has compelled them to boil sea water for lack of an alternative supply.
The Ankara Kaur Dam is the only water reservoir that provides water to Gwadar district, and it has reached dead level and almost dried up owing to drought.
Provincialauthorities should take advantage of the low level and clean the dam of silt to raise its storage capacity. The government should also take measures to increase water supply to the area so that people are not forced to use sea water.
Tariq Siddique Pishukan, District Gwadar (2) GWADAR city and its adjoining areas are facing an acute water crisis. The Public Health Engineering Department is providing supplies that are erratic, inadequate and unfit for human health.
The government should address this issue as early as possible and on a long-term basis.
This is the second time in a decade that the area is facing a drought-like situation. After the last rains the authorities concerned conveniently forgot about the area`s water woes. The authorities are requested to pay heed to the matter.
