Honhaar Scholarships for students of other provinces

LAHORE: The Punjab government has approved `Honhaar Scholarships` for the students ofotherprovinces.

Presiding over a meeting here on Thursday, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz set the same eligibility criteria for the students of other provinces like that of Punjab.

The Punjab government also increased the number of laptops for the students in Punjab up to 110,000. Approval for Honhaar Scholarship scheme for the students of second, third and fourth semesters in Punjab have alsobeen approved.

The CM ordered a specialhelpline for the students of Honhaar Scholarship and laptop schemes. The meeting decided to set minimum eligibility criteria to obtain 65 per cent to get a laptop in Punjab.

`Honhaar Scholarship and Laptop schemes are the right of every child and responsibility of the government.

Education and youth development are the real investments for the uplift of a nation and I want to see every child getting a laptop. Laptops and Honhaar scholarships are the right of students from other provinces as well.

She said: `Students from other provinces including Azad Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are also our children. Every child who comes on merit should apply to obtain education at a quality institution.

The meeting also approved to hold one-day vice chancellors conference and tech expo in Punjab.

BIKER LANE: Biker lanes will be constructed on all roads of Lahore in a phased manner, said the CM.

`A pilot project to allocate separate lanes for cyclists and motorcyclists on the roads of Lahore, following the model of China`s capital Beijing, has been launched,` she said and added in Phase-I, a 10-kilometre long biker lane in green and other colours was being developed from Ferozepur Road Canal Road to Lahore Bridge.

`The modern global concept of biker lanes will reduce accidents and bring about smooth traffic flow, she said and appealed to the citizens to make the pilot project a success with their cooperation and discipline.
