ISLAMABAD: Minister for Privatisation and Investment Abdul Aleem Khan on Thursday announced that the government will complete all necessary steps to privatise Pakistan International Airlines Corporation Ltd (PIACL) within three months.
The government has addressed all concerns of the parties interested in buying the national flag carrier and decided to make changes as per their preferences, Aleem Khan said in a special conversation.
A new roadmap is being developed to make PIA`s privatisation more attractive, and it is expected that all stages of this process will be completed within three months.
`There is no doubt the airline has the potential to become profitable again,` the minister asserted, adding that this time, the privatisation process would be more effective and feasible, which would positively influence the overall outcome of this transaction.
He emphasised that there is an expectation of better expressions of interest from investors as the introduction of PIA flights to Europe has made the environment more lucrative and favourable.
The minister also shared that flights to the UK will begin within three months thanks to recent measures that will make the national airline profitable.
He highlighted that PIA is the first choice for travel for the 240 million Pakistanis. Following Europe and the UK, the minister hoped flights to the United States and the Far East would be functional in the next phase. The minister said that the government would restore PIA`s reputation and take the airline to its lost glory. Even today, PIA has much potential to make it a profitable organisation. The national flag carrier is returning to profit mode due to the measures taken by the government. He assured that with positive steps, PIA`s credibility would be restored, and the airline would return to its peak.
