Women Protection Act

2016-04-07
EVERYWHER E there has been talk about the Women Protection Bill of 2016, passed by the Punjab Assembly. Religious parties had threatened to launch a massive movement against the passage of the bill. Others say it can`t be implemented in letter and in spirit because our society is not ready for it yet.

So why aren`t our religious parties accepting the bill? I think women in our society are thought to be obedient service providers, a birth machine and a tool of tranquility.

Despite the passage of the bill. women still pass their entire life within the four walls of their house (read prison). Women either pass their whole life miserably and silently or they get to be discouraged, depressed and mentally disturbed.

According to the American Psychological Association, women will probably experience the ill effects of mental sicknesses more often than men.

Hence, it proves that women suf fer much more in comparison to their malecounterparts. It`s a slap on the face of our society which feel that women are frail, fragile and second-class citizens.

Elsewhere in the world women have been allowed to play their role. Our maledominated society ought to ponder over the fact that our society can never flourish without giving essential rights to women.

Denying them their fundamental rights may have staggering consequences for Pakistan.
