LONDON: British Prime Minister Boris Johnson was admitted to intensive care unit as his condition worsened on Monday af ternoon a day af ter being hospitalised with coronavirus.

He was moved to the ICU at the hospital on the advice of his medical team in case he needed to use a ventilator, according to his Downing Street office press release.

`The PM has asked Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab... to deputise for him where necessary,` it added.

Johnson was admitted to St Thomas` Hospital in London on Sunday with a temperature and a cough after testing positive for coronavirus on March 27.-AFP
