SARGODHA: A gunman was killed in an alleged police encounter near the Alipur Noon area after being injured and arrested.

The police said hand grenades, firearms and cash were recovered from him, while two of his accomplices are absconding.

According to sources, three gunmen snatched a motorcycle and Rs20,000 from Yasir Nawaz near Nabi Shah area of Bhalwal town and fled.

On being alerted, the police chased the gunmen who were riding a motorcycle. In an encounter near Alipur Noon, a dacoit from village Ratu Kala, Ishtiaq Ahmed alias Shaka, was arrested in injured condition who later died in hospital.

GANG-RAPE: A 13-year-old grade nine student was gang-raped for two months by nine people in Hyderabad town who blackmailed him through a video of him and extorted Rs50,000 as well.

On the complaint of the father of the alleged rape survivor, the Jhal Chakian police have registered a case against the nine suspects without any arrest.

RECOVERED: The body of a nine-year-old boy who drowned while bathing in the Jhelum River with his friends in Sargodha was recovered from the river during a search operation and handed over to his heirs.

ACTION: The Sargodha district administration ranked second in Punjab after Lahore in the action against transport operators for charging more than the official fare from passengers on Eidul Fitr.

The district administration ticketed 156 vehicles for overcharging and overloading, detaining 82 vehicles. A fine of Rs464,000 was imposed, while Rs166,060 in excess fare impounded from transport owners was returned to the passengers.

In this regard, the RTA secretary said that special squads were formed for Eid days with support from the traffic police, patrol police and assistant commissioners.

ACCIDENT: Eleven people, including women and children, were seriously injured in a collision between a wagon and a car near Bahk Mekan on Sargodha-Jhang Road.
