PTI lambasts Sharifs for lavish ceremonies

By Our Staff Reporter 2015-05-07
LAHORE: The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI)leadership has lambasted the Sharif brothers for their failure to generate electricity and relieving masses from intermittent loadshedding.

PTIPunjabPresident Ejaz Chaudhry said the nation was shocked over Sharif brothers` obsession with showoff as the Punjab government spent Rs10 million public money on the inauguration of the first unit at the Quaid-i-Azam Solar Park in Bahawalpur on Tuesday.

He said an army of federal and provincial ministers were present in Bahawalpur just to please their masters.

He said the nation had no idea how much was spent on the security and VIP protocol of the Sharif brothers and ministers.

He said the PML-N had no concerns with the suffering of the poor nation. He said the way the Sharif brothers were running the affairs of government, the public was rightly calling them `Badshah Salamat` and these monarchs had no right to rule the nation. He said the Sharif brothers should stop behaving like the Arab princes of a poor nation that cannot afford their lavish life style.

PTI Punjab General Secretary Dr Yasmin Rashid said that wasting public money for self-glorification was a perennial favourite of the Sharif family. They lavishly spent on massive electronic and print media campaigns and on inauguration ceremonies, she added. She said she wished that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif could have thought once before spending Rs10 million on the inauguration ceremony about the poor starved people of Cholistan desert, who had eyes bloodshot red, deep hollows around them and their appetite waned considerably. She said the basic necessity of life was out of reach for the people living in this area but Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif was bent upon spending on roads and metros that too only for central Punjab.

PTI Punjab Information Secretary Andleeb Abbas said the Sharif brothers hadadded just 100MW to the national grid in two years while the shortfall was ranging between 4,000 to 6000MW. She said the Sharif brothers` pomp and show in the poverty-stricken desert had cost Rs10 million to the national exchequer. She said instead of going after basic necessities of life such as health, education, water and electricity, Shahbaz and his brother were busy in showy projects. She said the project cost more than the budget of the entire south Punjab but the locals would hardly get any benefit.

Ms Abbas said who was responsible for the morally and ethically unfair status of south Punjab. She said the Sharif brothers had forgotten their promise to give Bahawalpur the status of a province. She said the Sharif brothers needed to revisit their strategy towards south Punjab or they would be routed out of it like they were from interior Sindh.

PTI Lahore leaders also strongly criticised the tall claims of the rulers on overcoming power crisis and called it nothing but a ` hoax`call.

PTI Lahore president Abdul Aleem Khan said the Punjab government must answer about the failure of `Nandipur Power Project` which could not produce even a single megawatt despite a Rs59 billion investment.

Now, he said, the `Mian Brothers` had given a new slogan of solar power, which was not affordable worldwide. He said the project was too costly as even rich countries did not rely on it.

Also, Aleem Khan held a meeting with party chief Imran Khan and discussed political situation after election tribunal`s decision against rigging in NA 125.

Aleem Khan said the meeting reviewed that the party had options to go for by-elections or start a country-wide movement for new elections. Predicting the similar decision by election tribunal in NA-122, the party leadership said the Lahore city would be having elections in different constituencies. It is expected that sooner the party leadership would take important decisions, Aleem Khan added.
